Marketing Proposals
There's a simple choice in marketing
proposals: you either have too much information, or not enough.
I don't think there anything in between. Of the two, I prefer
having too much information. Then I can pick and choose which sets
of information to use.
BizMiner is the best starting point we know. This is the
marketing data that most lenders and investors use. It is the most
thorough on the market, gathering information from hundreds of thousands
of businesses each year, then summarizing the findings for easy use.
Then check out
Marketing Plans to get an idea of the type of information that you
are likely looking for.
There are lots of
online sources for information. And don't forget to check with
your local industry professional society and your chamber of commerce.
Marketing plans for online businesses
are probably the toughest to construct. So much of the "online
world" sounds like voodoo to staid sorts, like traditional bankers.
Here is where you really need strong, strong documentation. Check
out
eBay
Business Plans for some clues on what to present.

Your
Free Business Plan
I don't, for the most part, think very highly of the "business plans" that come out of academia. They tend to be for huge companies with impossible dreams. This one from Yale University is different. It is for a smaller
non-profit coffee enterprise. And it makes sense. It's very well written. No wonder it was a grand prize winner in
the non-profit business plan competition!
