May your holiday season be as joyful as you can possibly imagine ... and then some!

NEW BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
BOOKSTORES FOR THE NICHES
There's a bookstore in San Mateo, California, that is the largest mystery bookstore on the entire western coast of the United States, "M for Mystery".

M for Mystery competes very nicely in a highly competitive market. Bookstores, both online and off, discount outrageously. What used to be a nice mom and pop endeavor has become cut throat big business.

M for Mystery is different. It has thrived because it specializes. I has more mystery books than any other bookstore on the West Coast, including Barnes & Nobel.

It also promotes very effectively, with in person book talks by hundreds of authors each year -- something that even online stores can't offer.

Moral of the story: bookstores are still very viable businesses, as long as the niche is carved out effectively and promotion is done well. That's nice to know for all of bibliophiles.
