KEY CONSIDERATION
Aviation business plans by definition
involve creative financing. This is expensive. There are planes,
of course. Maybe instructors. Massive insurance policies.
Maintenance fees that would knock the socks off most entrepreneurs.
And the list goes on.
STRONGEST ADVANTAGE
You wouldn't even be considering this
business if you didn't know aviation, and know it very well. That is a
huge asset in your corner. Most business people don't know their
businesses well at all, at least until they are so far in that they have no
choice but to muddle through.
But you know it. You know what you
are doing. You know the rules and regs. You've got the license.
And odds are too that you know some folks who are pretty well heeled who
might help you out.
You've got a lot going for you.
STRONGEST DISADVANTAGE
Re-read that bit about being expensive.
OVERCOMING THE DISADVANTAGES
WITH AVIATION BUSINESS PLANS
Demonstrate Your Management and
Financing Skills
I doubt that anyone will question that you
can handle the technical aspects of an aviation business. But what
about the business side? That's another story.
Use your business plan to demonstrate your
- Accounting expertise
- Management ability
- Advertising ability
- Public relations capability
And don't be afraid to show off photos with
you and some of your potential or past clients.
In many respects, this is a business of
relationships. Show how you have developed your relationships.
Being In The "Expansion" Mode
Is What Makes It Work
Start ups are hard to fund in any
industry. In an industry as capital-intensive as yours, it helps if
you can show that you have already begun. You've begun the cargo
shipment runs. You've begun the training. You've begun
whatever it is that you are going to do.
And you've reached a point where you need
financing to expand.
That will take you a long way.
FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
FOR YOUR AVIATION BUSINESS PLAN AND YOUR AVIATION BUSINESS MARKETING PLAN
The first type of statistical information
you will need for your marketing plan for your aviation business is on the industry itself.
BizMiner
has solid information on several types of aviation.
At the home page, go to "Industry Search".
Keying in "aviation" will bring back a list of potential
aviation related businesses, including:
- Pilot service, aviation
- Aviation propeller and blade repair
- Aviation club, membership
- Flying field, maintained by aviation
clubs
- Aviation school
- Aviation and/or aeronautical
engineering
All of these categories have
both Industry Financials and Marketing Research reports available.
Do get both. Your lender will see this information. You
should know what is in these reports. If it is in your favor, use
it. It it is not good, go in forewarned.
Then, depending on what type of
aviation company you have, you may need to look for demographic
information for your area -- specifically for income levels and/or
educational levels. BizMiner has that available as well.
