Business Startup Grants

I am looking for a business grant. Im in Illinos and preparing to build a new building for my business. Im curious as to finding out about grants to help with this process. Is there any one person we can talk to who knows which grants/loans would be possible once i described our business and location?

Casey,
The news is not good. There are few, if any, grants for start up businesses. And finding them is rather like finding a needle in a haystack. Even for established businesses, business grants are pretty rare.

It is a very common misconception that there are startup business grants for everyone. In fact, there are some startup grants, but only in very particular circumstance. See our Business Grants page for an outline of the type of business grants that are typically available.

As for finding them, you can get a Grants Directory, or you can hire a grants specialist. Either way, you will still be doing a lot of the legwork yourself. There is no person you can simply call and get a list of possible grants.

It is harder getting a business grant than it is to get a business loan of any kind. If you have real property that you can use as collateral, your best bet may be to look at an SBA loan.
