Home based business plans will surprise and delight you, whether you are looking for micro-financing, angel investment or SBA loans.  They are all part of the home based business dynamic, and rightly so.

There is a major shift in the business world happening right now.  With all the layoffs and the uncertainties of corporate life, not to mention the desire for a better quality of life, millions of workers are opting for a home based business.  Yes, there will still be steel factories and large department stores, but the proliferation and professionalism of home based businesses is changing the way America works.

A start up business plan for a home based business is whole different keg of fish than a comparable plan for a brick and mortar business.  A new department store may need to figure out sales per square foot and determine how many employees it needs.

The issues for home based business plans are very different.  These entrepreneurs face issues like

• How do I market nationally on a very limited budget?
• How do I define my business to a banker who probably has never done it?
• How do I project professionalism when my address is Petunia Lane?

If clients are knocking on your door then, yes! go ahead and open up for business.  Few of us are so lucky, so for all of the rest of us, let's take a bit of time before opening and get our ducks in a row.  Life will indeed be so much easier, and the business will likely be more successful.

Home Based Business Plans For Financing

We are two pieces of advice when drafting your business plan for your home based business:

1. Forget that it is home based.

It is a business, no matter where it is located.  Would it be any different if it were based in an office tower?  Probably not.  So present it as a business.  Talk about the marketing plan, the financial projections, the biographicals, and everything else, just as though your business were located in a fancy high rise.

2.  Promote the fact that it is home based.

Truly, you are saving bundles of money by being home based.  Make sure that your financials in particular promote that fact.

If this is a temporary arrangement until the company reaches a certain size or meets other goals, say so.  If you expect that this is a permanent arrangement (and that is just dandy), then state that too.  Whichever it is, right now you are choosing the cost effective route to success, and that is very good.

And if you do need that fancy address, rent a postal box and phone in one of the office sharing suites.  It will get you a great address very cheaply.  Slews of great companies started out just like that.
