The medical billing business used to be a whole lot easier, and so did medical billing business plans. But the thousands and thousands of changes to insurance plans and Medicare each year have turned this into a very high tech business.
Quite honestly, funding for anything is tough right now, even in the medical field. The medical field used to be immune from economic burps, but it seems that a lot of patients can postpone all kinds of treatment when they have no insurance.
All of which says that you won't find it easy to get financing.
But here are a couple of things you might try:
(1) Leasing Your Equipment
One of your biggest expenses will be the software you need. It is possible that the company selling the software will sell it to on terms (heck, they need business too). Or, as an alternative, try leasing it. Really. Software can sometimes be leased.
(2) Use Your Clients
When approaching a bank, don't hesitate to list the names of the physicians and clinics that you will be serving. They are your best recommendation.
In fact, a very nice tactic is to show your business plan to one of your clients, asking permission to include his/her name in your Client List. Leave the business plan with him/her to browse through. If it is strong enough, you may just get a referral to an independent person who can fund it, or perhaps a referral to business banker. Either way, you are way ahead of the game.
So get that business plan in order, and go for it!
